Covenant: Stepping into Deeper Purpose
Covenant with Adam:
Genesis 2:15-17 New International Version
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Genesis 1:28 New International Version
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it…
Principle: God always works through Covenant.
Covenant with Noah:
Principle: There are two sides of the covenant.
Principle: He has put a covenant in place to not only SAVE you but to BLESS you as well.
Covenant with Abraham:
Genesis 12:2-3 New International Version
2 “I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
Principle: Covenant with God will take you outside of your comfort zone.
Covenant with Moses:
Principle: Being in covenant, God will sometimes require you to go places that you don’t want to go.
Covenant with Joshua:
Joshua 1:1-7 New International Version
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
Principle: When you are in covenant, you will win.
Principle: If we fight battles God’s way we will win.
Covenant with David:
Principle: If you will honor God and be a faithful shepherd, He will make you a king or a queen upon the earth.
The New Covenant:
Mark 14:23-24 New International Version
23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24 “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them.
