Freedom part 1
Intro:
John 8:36 New International Version
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Sin Causes Slavery:
John 8:31-36 New International Version
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Principle: When we sin, we lose the freedom that God designed us to live in.
Principle: True freedom comes from God.
Principle: We find true freedom when we reconcile with God and do things His way.
Slavery Defined:
Principle: A slave is someone that has lost their rights.
Principle: Sin is terrible. Sin is cruel. Sin demands death.
Romans 6:23 New International Version
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Understanding Your Position:
John 8:33 New International Version
They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
Principle: Before we accept the message of Jesus Christ, we are all slaves to sin.
Romans 5:12 New International Version
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
Romans 3:23 New International Version
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
