Leader = Servant: Value Others

Xiomara Florencio Leave a Comment

Pastor Joshua continues this sermon series to discuss the need to value others above ourselves to create win-win scenarios as commanded in God’s word.

Philippians 2:3-8 New International Version
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross!

Philippians 2:3 New International Version
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.

Principle: Kingdom ambition asks: What does a win-win look like?

Philippians 2:3 New International Version
3…Rather, in humility value others above yourselves

Principle: Humility causes you to see people you did not see before.

Philippians 2:3-5 New International Version
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

John 3:16 New International Version
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Principle: The mindset of Christ is relationally focused.

Principle: Lead with love.

Philippians 2:5 New International Version
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Principle: Too much me equals a life out of balance.

Philippians 2:4 New International Version
4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Principle: The Kingdom is about seeing others as well as you see yourself.

Philippians 2:6-8 New International Translation
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross!

Principle: Godly leadership uses its gifts, networks, and open doors not to benefit itself, but to benefit others.

Principle: True leadership asks: How can I serve?

Matthew 20:28 New Living Translation
28 … the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
