Pastor Joshua begins a new sermon series on how being a leader requires you to first be a servant.
Matthew 23:11 (NIV)
“The greatest among you will be your servant.”
Matthew 23:12 (NIV)
“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Principle: If you try to exalt yourself, you will be humbled. But if you humble yourself, God will exalt you.
Matthew 20:28 (NIV)
“…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Galatians 5:17 (ESV)
“For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.”
Principle: The desires of the flesh, left unchecked, will run your life.
Mark 10:35–40 (NIV)
“Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. ‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘we want you to do for us whatever we ask.’ ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ he asked. They replied, ‘Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.’ ‘You don’t know what you are asking,’ Jesus said. ‘Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?’ ‘We can,’ they answered. Jesus said to them, ‘You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.'”
Principle: There is a selfish ambition, and there is a redeemed ambition. Redeemed ambition always leads you back to servanthood.
Principle: Don’t get stuck in the vicious cycle of pride. Let God strip away the selfish ambition and replace it with a righteous ambition He can use.
Romans 1:1–2 (NKJV)
“Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures…”
Principle: God loved Saul, but He could only truly use Paul — after
the transformation.
Principle: The greatest among you will be your servant. Leadership is all about our service to others.
