Listen: A Delicate Whispering Voice

Pastor Joshua uses the scripture of 1 Kings to describe how the voice of the Lord does not always show up in loud ways, but in a still small voice after something that was meant to shake us.

John 10:27 New International Version
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

1 Kings 19:11–13 — New King James Version
11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Principle: Hearing from God is about learning how to focus.

Matthew 7:24 New Living Translation
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

Principle: When we stand on the Word of God, we become Unshakable.

Principle: When you build your life on the Word of God, it becomes easier to distinguish the voice of God in the middle of the storm.

Proverbs 18:10 — New King James Version
10 “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Principle: The Fire will REFINE us.

James 1:2-4 New International Version
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Principle: There is something greater that God has for us on the other side.

Principle: We have to learn to listen even in the middle of the fire.

1 Kings 19:12 New King James Version
12 …and after the fire a still small voice.

Principle: If you’re expecting God to always be loud, you’re going to miss something important.
