Flesh, Eyes, Pride:
1 John 2:16 – King James Version
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1 John 2:16 – New Living Translation
16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a
craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and
possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this
world.
Defiling:
Principle: When these cravings are at work in you it taints your walk
with God.
Mark 7:20-23
20 And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles
you. 21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts,
sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness,
deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All
these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
Led Astray:
Question: Is my desire for God or is my desire for the world?
Luke 9:62 – New Living Translation
But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then
looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who
chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy

What Do You Look Like?
Principle: If you look like the world you will be like the world.
James 4:4 – New Living Translation
…Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an
enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world,
you make yourself an enemy of God.
Principle: My position is not what’s easy or culturally acceptable
Matthew 24:35 – King James Version
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass
away.
Principle: Jesus didn’t look like the world
Principle: Jesus came to shift culture not agree with it.
The Way:
Proverbs 14:12 – New King James Version
There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.
Principle: The lust for the things of this world will send you down a
path to destruction.
John 3:16 – New King James Version
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting
life.
Principle: The disciplined life reaps the rewards.
