Freedom From Fear, Doubt, & Worry

Pastor Karen speaks about overcoming doubt, fear and worry through the freedom found in Christ.

John 8:31-32 (English Standard Version)
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Romans 8:5-8 (The Message)
Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That
person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn’t pleased at being ignored.

1 Corinthians 13:12 (New Living Translation)
Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

Isaiah 55:8-9 (New Living Translation)
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Principle: Scripture anchors us

Freedom in Trust
Psalm 23:4 (Amplified Version)
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

Philippians 4:6-7 (New Living Translation)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, 7 and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

Prayer is a time of exchange

John 14:18 New International Version
No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and sound judgement.

Psalm 94:19 (New Living Translation)
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Jeremiah 29:11 (New Living Translation)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

As we get closer to Jesus, things get better.

Mark 5:37-42 (New Living Translation)
Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter, James, and John (the brother of James). When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand,
he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!” And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed.

Trusting in God’s plan leads to Freedom.

Romans 8:28 (English Standard Version)
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
