Guest speaker, Minister Kendy Ward preaches a powerful word on the lifestyle that is expected of a follower of Christ – living a life of complete surrender.
Matthew 16:24-25
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”
Principle: To be a disciple you must be disciplined. Surrender is a discipline. Surrendering to God’s will requires a lifestyle of discipline.
I Corinthians 9:27
27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
Principle: When you have a lifestyle of surrender you surrender your time, talents and treasures to God.
Principle: A lifestyle of surrender includes spending time with God in prayer.
Principle: When you’re surrendered to the will of God, you’re not idle with your time.
John 9:4
4 We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. [a] The night is coming, and then no one can work.” In other words, don’t waste time because time is short.
Principle: Don’t burry your talents
Principle: Can you surrender what you think you’re entitled to?
Principle: Surrendering to God’s will is for our own protection. The safest place for us to be is in God’s will.
Principle: Being in the will of God is living in the truth of God.
John 8:32
32 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Principle: Surrendering will make you free.
Principle: A disciple is not concerned about comfort, autonomy or freedom and most concerned about holiness, righteousness and obedience.
